Session Overview
In-game Date: 20 Falkhyn 1197md, Late-Afternoon
- The party take a moment to recover their breath. The Gnoll War Chief previously made a runner through the door and turning left.
- The party check the passages and follow the same route of the gnoll.
- They reach a crossroad, ahead of which there is a large broad archway with gold-gilded letters with a strange script.
There is a broad archway leading into this room. There are gold-gilded letters engraved on the arch lintel. It is an intonation written in the ancient tongue of the Horned One, āIn one is allā. Intoning it prior to entry dispenses with the previously mentioned curse for nonā good-aligned characters only. If those of good alignment repeat the passage, they must make a charisma save or suffer 1 point of damage.
This was a waiting room for those wishing to seek an audience with the High Priest. Entering the room gives everyone an eerie feeling, as if something is not yet completed, as if a sentence has been left half finished. This feeling of discomfort fills all the characters. The room has rotted furniture in it. Large chairs, several cabinets, and a large brass bell on a stand are arranged about the room. Ancient scripts are engraved on the walls.
- Magpie spots the large brass bell on the stand, and has no alternative but to ring it.
- A loud, doleful tone echos through the room and the surrounding area.
- Through that room, there is a further crossroad. To the left, they can see a door that is slightly ajar; ahead there is a strangely scripted room; and to the right. is a final chamber.
- Following a quick discussion, Davian makes his way to the ajar door. Through the door way, he can hear the voices of kobolds that are talking about expected visitors. Additionally there is the sounds of chittering of spiders. He places his eye to the gap and takes a quick peek.
This is where Gritznakās #kobold guards sleep. Both doors to the room are locked. Seven kobolds are in here at the moment, with their four large pet spiders The kobolds are wary, having been told by Gritznak to expect visitors. Halfāeaten food, mouldering hay, and other trash litter the room.
- Davian quietly returns to the crossroad and softly teals the heroes about the kobolds.
- They decided to check the chamber with the bizarre scripts.
- They find the remains of a dead, rotting goblin in the middle of the room. It has obviously lain here for quite some time and is missing huge chunks of flesh.
This is a cursed chamber. It was once used to call forth or talk to the spirits of the dead. The walls and floor are carved all over with bizarre and ancient scripts. There is also a dead, rotting Goblin in the middle of the room. It has obviously lain here for quite some time and is missing huge chunks of flesh.
This room has a pervading sense of evil about it. Upon entering, the glyphs and portions of the script on the walls begin to move. Within three rounds, a figure emerges out of the wall above the entry.
- As they're examining the corpse, a emaciated figure emerges out of the wall above the entry. Garax identifies it as a Ghoul, and it is obvious that it is guarding this chamber.
- It attacks with sharp clawed nails and jagged teeth.
- Fortunately most of the heroes have armour which avoids the scratches and slices.
- Elowen lights a torch and uses it as a weapon to light the creature with fire.
- Between the fire and the axes, the Ghoul is killed, at which point it begins to dissipate and sinks back into the floor.
- The party quickly check their bodies, finding that there were no wounds or injuries. The members with no armour kept out of reach.
- Garax has a glance across the room with the scripts, who flags that there is a secret doorway. It was subtle but some of the scripts didn't connect together.
- After a bit of discussion, Elowen casts Burrow and is able to pass through the door.
- Once inside, she locates the latch and opens the door, allowing the heroes to get inside.
This is a secret chamber once used to store vitally important information and material for rituals. Much if it was taken away when the temple was abandoned. There are a series of old rotting wood shelves cluttered with jars, candle holders, scrolls, ink wells, pens, religious items, and other like paraphernalia. In the centre of the room is a tall desk with two chairs by it. This is a scribeās desk. Over the desk, a chandelier is hanging from the ceiling. It still has the candles in place. There are several items of interest in this room, and at the south end of the north nook is a secret compartment.
- Most of the scrolls are blank, or have the beginnings of spells written upon them.
- Several contain manners of calling forth the spirits of the dead, but they do not work. They are failed experiments.
- In the mess of the scrolls is one with a hold person spell written on it and another with cause fear written on it.
- The desk has old quills and dry ink wells, along with unused vellum, in the drawers, along with three goldāplated ramsā horns.
- Behind a pile of bottles and decanters filled with viscous materials and dried liquids, is a concealed panel.
- Glint reaches for the statue, and as he lifts it out, there is a loud click.
- He quickly retracts his arm as a guillotineālike blade drops from within the chamber.
- In the room, Magpie sees that the chandelier actually jerks up.
- Combining Garax's and Glint's strength, the party can pull down the chandelier. As it does so, they can see the guillotine raising itself and there is a click as a latch engages.
- Magpie checks the cabinet, spots the latch and locks it.
- From within the compartment, the party grab a long white mace with an ebony head; a small golden statue of a tree worth 300gp; and a small sack of clay tablets. There are six small clay tablets about two inches square in the sack.
- Elowen takes the time to identify and decipher the glyph.
- They are: Fire, Ice (3x), Death, and Bone.
- The heroes make their way back out into the previous room, only to see that the ghoul has restored itself.
- Davian tries to grapple with the ghoul.
- Garax and Glint looked at each other, then swung a mighty axe to cleave the ghoul.
- Once again it begins to dissipate and sinks back into the floor.
- The heroes looked at each other, and decided to leave the room before the Ghoul restored itself.
- They decided to take out the kobolds and spiders.
- Garax and Glint slam their way into the room, charging at the kobolds.
- Magpie casts a Bolt spell which hits but causes very little damage.
- Glint uses two-fisted attacks to eliminate the kobolds with prejudice.
- Garax wields his large axe as he sweeps the kobolds, sending several them flying into the walls.
- Elowen tries to kill a kobold with her hand crossbow, but she hadn't engaged the spring correctly, causing it to snap. Undeterred, she lashes out with her cane.
- Apart from Magpie being webbed to the wall, the party is able to take out the monsters.
- They continued through the farther door, and took the right-hand passage. They follow it through a right turn then to a left turn to find the entrance to a chamber.
This is a sacrificial chamber where Gritznak, acting through the temple, is attempting to raise a spirit. Gritznak is here with eight Goblin warriors. Should a fray occur, the temple itself joins in as described below. The room is strangely lit with a bluish haze that emanates from the walls. In the centre of the room is a stone dais upon which chains and manacles are piled. In front of this is a stand with a red velvet cloth thrown over it with a large sickle lying on top. The floor is covered with the markings of an ancient script, and a blood-red eye the size of a platter peers from the centre of the east wall.
- As the party are stood in the entrance, Gritznak begins intoning a prayer.
- Elowen uses her Lower Trait to affect the gnoll. She finds it hard going, as though there was something rejecting her spell.
- Each this happens, the party can see that the Blood-Red Eye flashes every time it rejects her spell.
- Magpie flies himself towards the ceiling and throws a Bolt at the Eye. There is a flash of light as it bounces into the side of the room.
- Glint uses a two-fisted attack to attack the kobolds with prejudice.
- Garax wields a large axe to sweep the kobolds, sending several them flying into the walls.
- Davian runs up to the Eye with a ebony mace. There is a flash of red light, to show that the Eye is still intact but it makes a baleful stare at the party.
- 2024-03-25 looks at the sack and picks up one of the glyphs. She throws the tablet of Death at the far wall.
- It shatters and there is a blue-white flash of light.
- Several goblins and a couple of the party are affected.
- Garax is Distracted, Glint has a Adrenaline boost, several of the goblins are keeping their distance from the group.
- Davian spots that there is a human merchant chained up on the dias between the stand and Gritznak the Bold; the Gnoll War Chief from earlier, is acting as a bodyguard.
