Savage Worlds: Adventure Edition

The Short Pitch:

What if Sauron had won, and ruled Middle Earth for 1000 years, and only then been overthrown?

This was set a hundred years after that, just long enough that the stories of the evil empire are becoming kind of folklore that our grandparents talk about, while the remnants are still there enough to be stirring yet. It sets up a world that feels kind of new and open but with a deep mythology.

Inspiration

Legend is a fantastic film. The visuals in it had a profound influence on TLG's design of the World of Aihrde. Darkness from the movie was a HUGE inspiration. A truly inspiring film.

Introduction

In Aihrde heroes tread in iron-shod boots and wizards lean on crooked staffs to plunder the buried wealth and power of the ages. Here, the eternal struggle goes on, age after age, for Aihrde is a world of adventure, of undaunted heroes, untainted by the decadent philosophies of those meek who suffer in the shadows. For here the stone columns of history are wiped clean, awaiting the bold to carve their mark and gain entry to the halls of immortality!

The world of Aihrde spins upon an earth-like axis of ancient civilisations where good and evil have struggled for countless years. It is a world that bears the markings of its past; where ancient evils slumber, stained with the power of eldritch wizardry; where gods dwell in bejewelled halls of wonderment, worshipped by men and women of all creeds; where Dragons live in great dens of heaped treasure; where the new stands upon the ruins of the old in beds of ancient glory.

Background

In 1040md, the 30-year-old Pryzmira became Empress of New Aenoch. The Empress then turned to the western lands and called for a crusade promising land and wealth. The summons generated wide enthusiasm in the west and hosts of men came to carve holdings for themselves.

In 1197md, Pryzmira celebrated her 57th year as Empress of New Aenoch. She is old, 87, and the last of the rulers who emerged from the WINTERS DARK. She has seen the world born in war and saw it remake itself in the aftermath. The venerable old woman is much beloved by her people. Whole generations have grown to maturity while she has sat on the throne of New Aenoch. Many view her person as the empire, dreading the day of her demise. For her part, Pryzmira has long since laid aside the heavy hand of rule and takes a less than active role in the administration of her realm. She struggles with increasing her commercial power in the markets owned by the electors. Her military power is vast, due to the frontier conquests of so many Crusader Knights. They swear fealty to her alone, which she gladly accepts.

In truth, her one great goal is to see her daughter Neratite crowned Empress of New Aenoch, but to do this she must gain at least four votes from the seven Electors of New Aenoch. To increase her bargaining position, in 1195 md she called for another crusade, bringing fresh blood in from the west.

New Aenoch promises high adventure and quick wealth. The political and religious unrest caused constant feuds between the seven lands and the Empress, between the old and new gods. The continuous calls for crusaders to rid the lands to the north of wild orcs and remnants of the horrors of Aufstrag make New Aenoch a beacon for would-be glory hunters.

The Undying War
The Undying War is an Adventure Path that begins in the verdant fields and loamy earth that lies along the banks of the Drunberry River, beneath the shadows of the Blacktooth Ridge. Here the party runs afoul of Gritznak, a Gnoll of evil temperament. Thus begins an adventure that begins in the plundered ruins of a peasant’s barn, and ends before the gates of Aufstrag. There the characters battle or barter with the tower’s keeper Coburg the Undying, for luck and skill play their hands, they’ll have the Lady of Garun in hand, the one that Coburg loves more than all the power and majesty the world may offer.

End of the Game

Well, I was prepping for the game and I got a Discord message from Kieran:

Kieran

Hey I’m really sorry I think im going to have to drop out for the time being! I’ve been so busy and I’m really struggling to get much time to myself in the evenings (as I can’t make the next two sessions either) so don’t want to keep you in limbo sorry!

So I thought to myself that I can run with two players, and asked Tom & Alice if they were happy to continue the game?

Alice | Elowen Silverleaf

I’m sorry but I think I need to drop out as well. I’m still finding the rules of the game confusing and don’t think I can manage playing too many characters. It’s been fun though and thank you for all your hard work creating the games.

So I sent a Discord to Tom that I was archiving this game for the time being so that I could take some time to rethink some things.

Tom Potter

Makes sense. Thanks for running it so far, though! It's been fun
